International start-ups compete at Texas A&M’s first Construction Innovation Competition

Texas A&M Innovation and the College of Architecture launched the inaugural Construction Innovation Competition on September 12, 2024, at Cavalry Court, bringing together international start-ups from the architecture-engineering-construction (AEC) industry to compete for prize money. The event, held in partnership with the Society for Construction Solutions (SCS), celebrated innovation, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving within the industry. Speeches by Texas A&M Innovation’s Pete O'Neill and College of Architecture Interim Dean Patrick Suermann emphasized the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial ecosystem at the university. Wheelock School House earns $100k preservation grant

In April, the Friends of Wheelock School House were honored with a $100,000 award at the inaugural Michael C. Duda Preservation Awards for their exceptional work in restoring a historic 1908 schoolhouse. With help from Texas A&M’s Center for Heritage Conservation, this grassroots effort has transformed the building into a living classroom for future architects and preservationists, demonstrating the power of community-driven preservation.

Wildfire Experts List

The College of Architecture at Texas A&M University houses a distinguished team of wildfire experts dedicated to innovative research and practical solutions for wildfire-related challenges. This team focuses on key areas such as fire-resistant architecture, urban planning, disaster recovery, and social vulnerability. Through projects like the NSF-funded FIRE-PLAN, these experts work at the forefront of wildfire mitigation in the Southern U.S., particularly in the wildland-urban interface (WUI). Their research supports safer evacuations, resilient community designs, and sustainable recovery strategies in the face of increasing wildfire threats.
