Dr. Lingqian ‘Ivy’ Hu Joins Texas A&M as Dean of College of Architecture

Dr. Lingqian “Ivy” Hu officially begins her tenure as dean of the Texas A&M College of Architecture on July 1. The Office of the Provost announced her appointment in April, following a national search for new leadership

Hu said she feels incredibly grateful to the faculty, staff and students that have made her feel welcome.

“I couldn’t be more excited to begin this new chapter with you all,” Hu said. “From the moment I arrived, I’ve felt the spirit, energy and heart that define this college.”

Getting to Know Dr. Hu

Hu joins Texas A&M from the University of Florida, where she served as chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and associate director of the School of Landscape Architecture and Planning. Previously, Hu served as a professor and chair of the Department of Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

She earned both her Ph.D. in policy, planning and development and her master’s in planning from the University of Southern California. She also holds a bachelor’s in planning from Nanjing University.

Her research has secured more than $5.2 million in external funding.

“The College of Architecture has a long and proud tradition of excellence, creativity and service,” Hu said. “What drew me here — and what inspires me every day — is the bold thinking, collaborative spirit and deep commitment to plan, design and build a better world.”

A Message from the Dean

In her first year, Hu plans to focus on listening, learning and fostering strong relationships across the college and beyond.

“Whether you’re a student just starting out, a dedicated faculty or staff member, or part of our extended college family, please know this: you are the heartbeat of this community,” Hu said. “Your creativity, your passion and your ideas are what make this place extraordinary.”

With the College of Architecture expanding its programs, research and industry partnerships, Hu brings a clear sense of purpose to her leadership.

“I want to understand what matters most to you — what excites you, what challenges you and what dreams you hold for the future of this college,” Hu said. “I believe in inclusive leadership, open dialogue and creating space for every voice to be heard. Together, I know we can reach new heights.”
