Scholarship FAQs

All undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the College of Architecture who meet academic standards are eligible for competitive scholarships based on the criteria of each scholarship.

The criteria for each scholarship vary, and can be based on (but not limited to) academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities, leadership and community service. Select scholarships are available for study abroad and other academic activities.

The amount of each award varies, but the range is typically between $1,000 and $2,000 for one academic year.

In addition to the award amount, international and out-of-state domestic students may be eligible for a non-resident tuition waiver.

There are two types of scholarships within the College of Architecture: college scholarships and department scholarships. In addition to these scholarships, you’re encouraged to apply for scholarships outside the college through the university or other external funding sources.

Incoming freshmen apply for scholarships in the ApplyTexas or Coalition applications. Most college and department scholarships for current students are awarded through the University Scholarship Application for Continuing Students. 

Students enrolled in the following departments will be considered for all scholarships after submitting the university scholarship application:

• Construction Science
• Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning

Students enrolled in the Department of Architecture should submit the university scholarship and a separate Department of Architecture scholarship application to be considered for both college and department scholarships. No application is necessary for students new to the architecture department.

The selection of recipients is determined by several departmental or collaborative college committees. These typically are composed of a chair, professor, or faculty members from their respective departments.

Yes. Graduate students may be hired as teaching, research or non-teaching assistants to defray the cost of tuition. Graduate students wanting to be considered for an assistantship should address a letter of intent to their department head indicating areas of interest. A résumé should also be submitted.

To satisfy university requirements, individuals must be registered for a minimum of nine credit hours of academic work per semester and six credit hours during the summer. Out-of-state students who are awarded assistantships will qualify for a non-resident tuition exemption only for the semester(s) employed.

Several research centers and labs housed within the College of Architecture offer unique scholarships. The centers and labs focus on a variety of areas including healthcare facility design, housing, historic preservation, hazard resilience and recovery, and leadership in the design and construction industries.
