Texas A&M University College of Architecture

What is Camp ARCH?

Camp ARCH
is a summer camp designed to give high-achieving students an opportunity to experience the professions of architecture, construction, landscape architecture, urban planning, and visualization. Camp ARCH combines academic instruction with fun social activities. Participants leave with an excellent outlook on the various fields of study and the spirit of Aggieland.

COVID-19 Update

Every year, we, at the College of Architecture, look forward to welcoming future Aggies to our college and showing them the experience of being a student at Texas A&M University. But given the current concerns with COVID-19, we have decided to move Camp Arch to a virtual event.

This was a difficult decision to make as Camp Arch is one event that many people look forward to and it is one of our favorite ways to introduce students to the College of Architecture. We plan to still be able to give participants a unique experience through a virtual platform and help them explore the opportunities the College of Architecture and Texas A&M University have to offer. Furthermore, we will continue to update applicants through our website and contact them via email.

Courses of Study

Students admitted to Camp ARCH will be enrolled in one of the following courses during their week on campus (depending on their preference and course availability).

Architecture

The architecture course mirrors the design studio aspects that students in the Texas A&M University Department of Architecture experience throughout the year, culminating in the creation of a hand-built, 3-D model using CAD software, laser-cutting, and other specialized tools.

Construction Science

The construction science course allows students to participate in site visits, building information modeling (BIM), interactive lectures, and specialized presentations by Texas A&M Department of Construction Science faculty.

Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning

The landscape architecture and urban planning course mirrors elements of professional design studios and encourages creative, individual thought within a team dynamic. Students explore three-dimensional space arrangements, form making, spatial functions, and procure the ability to create and communicate designs for the public realm.

Visualization

The visualization course gives students the opportunity to design and create their own visual application and website within small teams. Students will be responsible for developing a website, an app, a brand logo, collateral material, and a 2-D motion ad campaign.
