FAQ

Finances

  • How much does the program cost?

The total cost this year is $750. The $750 will be payable upon the student's acceptance into the program, and will cover tuition, room and board in a university residence hall, and project materials and supplies.

  • Does the cost of the program include transportation to/from College Station?

No, it does not. Transportation to and from College Station will be the responsibility of the student and his/her family. The College Station/Bryan area is served by a Greyhound bus station, Easterwood Airport (which has multiple daily flights to and from both DFW and Houston/Bush Intercontinental), and is less than two hours' drive from Houston and Austin, and about three hours' drive from San Antonio and the DFW Metroplex.

  • Does the cost of the program include room and board for students?

Yes, the total cost of $750 for this year includes room and board. The students will be housed in a university Southside residence hall, and will have their meals catered.

  • Do I need to bring any supplies or spending money to the camp?

That's up to you. The program cost includes all required supplies, but students may bring some basic art supplies if they wish. Students will probably want to bring a camera, a book bag/backpack, and an umbrella, as they will be walking around campus every day. Also recommended is a little bit of spending money in case students want to buy an extra snack somewhere or a souvenir at the University Bookstore.

Academics

  • Which students are eligible to attend?

ALL students who have completed 9th grade or higher are eligible to attend. This also includes students who are graduating in June, even if they're already planning to attend Texas A&M University .

  • Do I need to have experience in art/drafting/drawing to attend Camp ARCH?

No. Experience is helpful, but not at all necessary. Students will receive instruction and guidance from both faculty and current students, and the projects assigned will all be at an introductory level.

  • How will students be chosen to attend?

Students are selected based on academic performance and essay response.

Logistics

  • Can I bring a car to campus?

Yes, you can. You will, however, be responsible for the parking fees for your vehicle, which is $12+ per day. You will also need to let the program coordinator know that you are bringing a car for the duration of the program. Temporary summer camp parking permits can be purchased online at: http://transport.tamu.edu/specialevents/conference.aspx. Campers will not be allowed to drive the vehicle during the duration of the camp and will only have access to it at the start and end of the camp.

  • What if I need to leave before the presentation on Friday?

If you need to leave before the program is over, we can make arrangements for you to do so. Please notify Ann Broussard.

  • How do I get to Texas A&M University?

A map of campus and parking instructions will be mailed out to each camper upon acceptance into the program. An interactive campus map can be found at: http://maps.tamu.edu/.

  • Is the application due on April 1st, or can it be postmarked by April 1st?

The sooner the better, but we will accept applications that are postmarked on April 1, 2014.
