Oral History Project: Celebrating 50 Years

We’re looking for former students to help us remember the College of Architecture's first 50 years — from the grand to the granular.

Please be on the lookout in your email and mail for ways to share your stories about your college years. How did your education change your life? Tell us about your “all-night” project or study sessions. Share anecdotes about a favorite professor or classmate.

We are collaborating with Publishing Concepts, Inc. (PCI), to create an oral history publication of our college. Stories and photos from former students will be bound in a book to preserve its history. Former students can purchase the book from PCI, but do not need to buy it to take part in the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

On this page

I received an email/postcard/phone call from a company asking for my personal information and a story about my time at Texas A&M University. Is this a legitimate project, or is it a scam?

We have partnered with Publishing Concepts, Inc., (PCI) to produce an oral history publication for the Texas A&M University College of Architecture. PCI is a Dallas, Texas- based company that has created oral history publications for universities, fraternities, sororities and military organizations across the nation. This project allows the College of Architecture to hear about your personal experiences and explain how it helped shape your life.

Does Texas A&M University benefit from this?

Yes, in a few different ways:

  • The written oral history will preserve the legacy of the first 50 years of the college.
  • The college will receive the transcripts and audio files from interviews to use to promote the college, such as on social media or in other online or printed publications.
  • The Association of Former Students will receive updated contact information.
  • Neither the College of Architecture nor the Association of Former Students makes any money from the sales of the book or merchandise.

How do I know my information will only be used for this specific purpose?

Texas A&M College of Architecture has a contractual agreement with PCI that states:

All data, stories, photos and audio files (in physical or electronic medium) are the property of the Texas A&M College of Architecture and permission will be secured by PCI from those who submit the data for Texas A&M College of Architecture to re-purpose them on other platforms (i.e. the Oral History Book Publication or electronic media.) PCI will return all data updates submitted by former students, including but not limited to preferred Address, Phone, Email, Job Title and Employer name.

I would like to update my information and share a story. How may I do this?

If you received a postcard or an email with a telephone number, you may call the number to speak with a dedicated representative for the oral history project. The representative will verify all the information we have on file for you, make any updates where needed, then ask you to share your story about your time at the college. Your story will be recorded and the sound clip provided to the College of Architecture at the conclusion of the project.

If you have received an email with an embedded link, you may go to the online site to review your information and submit a story.

If you have questions, please call PCI’s customer service desk at 1.800.982.1590.

I updated my information but need some more time to think about what story to tell.

You can call back at any time to share your story or schedule a call back with a PCI representative.

I shared a story and the representative said I could send some photos. How do I do this?

You will receive an email with a link to upload up to two photos plus captions.

If you purchased a book but do not have an email address on file, you will be sent a photo mailer to send physical photos in to be included in the project. Photos will be returned if you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

I’d like to add/remove info from my story.

You will receive an email prior to publication with a link to the PCI website where you can review your transcribed story and make any edits.

When you are on the PCI website, please save your work often. You may be timed out of the system and could lose your edits.

If I share a story, do I have to provide a photo? If I want a photo included, do I have to share a story?

You may share as much or as little as you’d like. Some people only want to share a story; others only want to share a photo and caption.

Can anyone purchase a book?

The Texas A&M College of Architecture oral history publication is available for sale only to Texas A&M former students.

Can I choose some or all of my information not to be printed in the book?

Yes, please note — no contact information (address, phone number, email address, etc.) will be printed in the book. Once you submit your oral history, a transcript will be sent for your approval. If you have any changes or edits, you can contact the PCI customer service desk at 1.800.982.1590.

I ordered a book/package over the phone and would like to cancel my order. How do I do this?

Call the PCI customer service help desk at 1.800.982.1590 to make changes to or cancel your order.
