One distinctive feature of the College of Architecture is its commitment to improving the knowledge base of the planning, design, and construction professions through research. The College of Architecture has one of the most active research programs in the country. Awards of externally funded research in the college typically amount to between $4 to $5.5 million per year. The diversity of the college is represented in the wide range of research undertaken by faculty. Research activity is focused upon the college's five formally organized research centers, two institutes, and various laboratories.
